A different way to torque your centerlocks.

Conventional sockets transfer torque through the visible outer profile of the centerlock. Velveteer doesn't.

It engages the internal spline instead — the same interface Porsche uses during vehicle assembly.

No torque through visible surfaces.

Optimized Retention

Anyone who has used the OEM centerlock socket will probably have noticed that it can come off rather easily. Apart from being inconvenient, even a small such movement can allow the safety pin to re-engage the internal splines, creating an unnecessary risk of damage of the centerlock nut.

Velveteer uses an O-ring with dimensions and hardness optimized for this application, providing noticeably firmer retention than the original Porsche O-ring and helping Velveteer to stay securely in place when it should.

High-Grade Materials

The splined drive head is made from high-grade, vacuum hardened 1.2343 tool steel to provide the strength and durability required for repeated use at Porsche centerlock torque levels.

The main body is machined from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminum, keeping the overall weight low while maintaining strength and good handling.

Precision at its core

The spline profile is produced by wire EDM for maximum accuracy and consistency. Precise geometry maximizes the contact area across the centerlock's internal splines, helping distribute the load as evenly as possible.

The tightening and loosening torque gets transferred directly through the internal splines, keeping the visible outer profile of the centerlock free of any signs of wear.

Velvet touch by design

Two protective nylon rings are integrated into the socket body to provide soft contact surfaces where they matter most.

The front ring prevents hard metal-to-metal contact between the aluminum body and the centerlock, while the rear ring helps protect the wheel from accidental contact during use.

FAQ

How is Velveteer different from a conventional centerlock socket?

Conventional centerlock sockets transfer tightening and loosening torque through the visible outer profile of the centerlock nut. Over time, repeated use can leave marks on this highly visible surface. Velveteer works differently — it engages the internal splines instead, moving the drive interface inside the centerlock and helping preserve its appearance even after repeated wheel changes.

Does Velveteer use the same principle as Porsche during vehicle assembly?

Yes. Velveteer engages the internal splines normally occupied by the wheel hub safety pin — the same interface Porsche uses to torque the centerlocks during vehicle assembly.

Will Velveteer stay on the centerlock by itself?

Yes. Velveteer uses an optimized retention O-ring specifically selected for this application. It provides firmer retention than the OEM socket, helping the socket stay securely in place while you work.

How does Velveteer protect the centerlock and wheel?

Velveteer transfers torque through the internal splines rather than the visible outer profile of the centerlock. Two integrated nylon rings provide additional protection at contact points, helping protect both the centerlock and wheel from unnecessary marks.

What is Velveteer made from?

The drive head is made from vacuum-hardened 1.2343 tool steel with a precision wire-EDM-cut spline profile. The main body is machined from lightweight, high-strength 7075 aluminum.

Is Velveteer designed for Porsche centerlock torque levels?

Yes. The hardened tool-steel drive head and its spline geometry are designed for repeated use at Porsche centerlock torque levels while maximizing contact across the internal splines. Always make sure to use Velveteer on wheels previously torqued to specified torque (600 Nm / 445 ftlbs).
